Exercise is good for you. Not only is it proven to help burn body fat, increase of good cholesterol and lower blood pressure but it can also improve your mood and reduce your chances of suffering from depression. Research shows that moderate exercise for 30 minutes a day is all you need to bring real health benefits, a heart rate monitor lets you know how hard you are working so you can alter the intensity of your work out to make sure you’re exercising at a safe and efficient level. Maximum heart rate (also called MHR) is the maximum heart rate that a person should achieve during maximal physical exertion. Research indicates it is most closely linked to a person's age. Remember – To work out you maximum heart rate (MHR) you can use the Miller formula: 217 – (0.85xage) = MHR (maximum heart rate). Safety: heart rate monitors have been developed to measure healthy people’s heart rate. People having a medical condition that affects heart rate or limits exercise intensity should consult a doctor before beginning a regular exercise program. These conditions include: high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol, signs or symptoms of any disease, recovery from a serious illness or a medical treatment e.g. surgery, usage of a pacemaker or other implanted electronic device.
