TENS stands for Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation, and has successfully been used for many years by pregnant women and professional midwives worldwide to help reduce labour pain. How does the Babycare TENS® rental unit work? At the onset of labour, apply the 4 pads to your back, as shown in the diagram above, and switch the TENS unit on. You will feel a pleasant pulsing sensation. This will help to increase your own pain relieving chemicals. When experiencing a contraction, simply press the boost button for the extra power needed to combat the pain. When the contraction ends, press the boost button again and restart the cycle. The hire period is for 30 days, with an extra 7 day extension if your baby arrives late. Please allow 3-5 working days for delivery. If you are within 3 weeks of your due date we recommend you use the next working day delivery service. Frequently asked questions Q. What precautions should I take before use? A. You should not use the Babycare TENS® before 37 weeks of pregnancy or if your use a demand type pacemaker. If you suffer from epilepsy or have any doubts whatsoever consult a medical adviser. Q. Can I use any TENS unit? A. No, the Babycare TENS® unit is specifically designed for childbirth. It uses larger pads than conventional TENS and includes a booster button, which is used for contractions. Q. Is the Babycare TENS® unit safe? A. Yes, it is specifically designed for labour. Please see the unit instructions for further information. Q. Can the Babycare TENS® unit be used with other methods of pain relief? A. Yes, it can be used with gas and air or pethidine. Q. Can the Babycare TENS® unit be used in hospital? A. Yes, but you may have to switch it off temporarily if the midwife requires you to do so. Q. Can I use the Babycare TENS® unit after my birth? A. Yes. The Babycare TENS® can be used for backache, shoulder pain, and many other painful conditions including pain after a caesarian section. Q. How long is the hire period for? A. 30 days, but if your baby is late we wil extend the hire for an extra 7 days free of charge, just telephone 0845 230 9737 while you still have the unit. After this period, hire is charged at £5 per week.

Rental Terms & Conditions - The hire agreement to which these terms and conditions apply is between Babycare TENS and the customer. Lloydspharmacy will act as Babycare TENS’s agent in arranging the hire. 1) Babycare TENS should only be used by the Customer named on the agreement. 2) The success of Babycare TENS in labour is neither guaranteed nor warranted. 3) Babycare TENS must not be used by anyone fitted with a cardiac pacemaker. If you suffer from epilepsy or have any concerns whatsoever, consult your medical advisor. 4) Babycare TENS must not be used before 37 weeks of pregnancy. 5) If the baby is late, the customer must phone Babycare TENS to request an extra free 7 day hire. 6) Failure to return the unit at the expiry of this 37 day period will result in the Customer being charged £5 per week or any part of a week over and above the hire period until the unit is returned. If the unit is not returned the Customer will be charged for that unit (see 8). All outstanding sums will automatically be charged to the Customer’s credit/debit card. 7) The hire unit must be returned via a Post Office by special delivery, or by obtaining a certificate of postage. The Customer must retain their certificate for 3 months. In the event that the unit is not received, the certificate must be produced. Failure to do so renders the Customer liable for the full retail value of the unit. 8) In the event of damage to, or loss of the unit by the Customer, the full retail value less the hire charge is payable to Babycare TENS by the Customer. 9) Non-use of the hired unit is entirely at the discretion of the customer and no refund will apply. 10) All units are fully tested immediately prior to dispatch. However, the liability of Babycare TENS shall not exceed the hire charge. 11) The Customer should check the contents of the hire pack upon receipt and familiarise herself with the instructions. The Customer must advise Babycare TENS of any problems whatsoever immediately. Babycare TENS accepts no responsibility where the Customer fails to do so and renders it impossible for Babycare TENS to take any corrective action.
