In February 2001 Lloydspharmacy launched the Lloydspharmacy Charitable Fund which is independently managed by the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) and is separate from the pharmacy business. Our Focus: As the UK’s leading community pharmacy, the health and wellbeing of our customers is our top priority.
The Lloydspharmacy Charitable Fund primarily supports charities which have a beneficial impact on people’s health and wellbeing. Rather than trying to support many charities during the course of the year, our annual charity activity now falls into two streams: • National Charity Partner • Corporate Partners We have taken this streamlined approach because we believe that this is the best way for us to establish a mutually beneficial partnership and make a real and lasting difference to the charities we support and the people with whom they work. Our policy therefore is not to support general requests for donations for vouchers, money or gifts in kind. If you have any queries please contact the Charitable Fund Office on 02476 625209 or email charity@lloydspharmacy.co.uk National Charity Partner: We are pleased to announce that Lloydspharmacy’s first National Charity Partner will be Macmillan Cancer Support. Our National Charity Partner is voted for by employees annually. We display information about our National Charity Partner throughout our pharmacies along with their collection boxes for a period of 12 months which runs from 1st March each year. During this 12 month period pharmacies and employees will take part in national and local events to raise funds and awareness for the National Charity Partner.
One in three of us will get cancer. 1.2 million of us are living with it. We are all affected by cancer. We can all help. We are Macmillan. “When we went through our darkest days, Macmillan was there. When we needed our spirits and our hearts lifting, Macmillan was there. When we lost the most important person in our lives, Macmillan was there”. Ciaran Devane, Chief Executive of Macmillan Cancer Support, said “We are delighted that Lloydspharmacy has chosen to support Macmillan as their national charity partner during 2009. The money that is raised from staff and customers will fund key services in the community providing practical, emotional and financial support for people affected by cancer”. CancerLine 0808 808 2020 www.macmillan.org.uk Who we are Macmillan Cancer Support improves the lives of people affected by cancer. As treatments improve, more and more people are living with cancer in their daily lives. This means they need more than medical help, they also need practical, emotional and financial support. A source of support We are a source of support, helping with all the things that people affected by cancer want and need. It’s not only patients who live with cancer, so we also help carers, families and communities. We guide people through the system, supporting them every step of the way. We fund nurses and other specialist health care professionals and build cancer care centres. But we give so much more than medical help. People need practical support at home, so we provide anything from some precious time off for a carer, to a lift to hospital. People need emotional support, so we listen, advise and share information though Macmillan’s CancerLine, website, support groups and trained professionals. People need financial help to cope with the extra costs cancer can bring, so we give benefits advice, and grants for anything from heating bills to travel costs. A force for change We are a force for change, listening to people affected by cancer and working together to improve cancer care. People who live with cancer are experts by experience. Together we use this knowledge to make a positive difference to the lives of people affected by cancer. This could be anything from getting a coffee machine installed in a waiting room, to bringing about changes in the law. We fight discrimination – from challenging unfair travel costs and insurance policies to improving the national benefits system. Together we challenge the status quo, we push for change, we lead the way. Corporate Partners: Lloydspharmacy is partnering with the charity Carers UK on a series of initiatives to support and improve the health of carers. Carers represent a very large proportion of the people who use our pharmacies on a regular basis and we are pleased to be able work with Carers UK to improve carers’ health and their access to support and advice in the community.
