Folate contributes to normal maternal tissue growth during pregnancy, as well as normal function of the immune system, blood formation and cell division. The Government’s Chief Medical Officer recommends that women should take 400μg daily folic acid supplement at least 3 months before conception and until the 12th week of pregnancy.
