Regaine for Men FAQ's

How to use Regaine® for Men?

Some Frequently Asked Questions about Regaine® for Men

When will REGAINE® start to work?

Results will vary from person to person. With REGAINE® Extra Strength Foam you may see results in as little as 8 weeks, but it can take up to 16 weeks to notice a difference. In the first 2-6 weeks, you may actually notice an increase in hair loss – but this normal – it shows that your hair is starting to actively grow.

Is REGAINE® suitable for everybody?

No, the effects of REGAINE® are influenced by: • The level of hereditary hair loss in your family • How long you have been experiencing hair loss • The type of hair loss condition you have • The area of hair loss on your scalp

However, REGAINE® is proven to stabilise hair loss in 4 out of 5 men.

How long will a bottle or can of REGAINE® last?

If you use the recommended dose, one bottle will last approximately 30 days. Make sure you buy your next pack before you run out so that you don’t miss any applications.

Will I get quicker results if I use REGAINE® more often?

No. Applying REGAINE® more than twice a day won’t speed up your hair growth. It may, however, increase your chances of experiencing side effects.

How long should I use REGAINE® for?

You should continue to use REGAINE® for as long as you want to maintain hair regrowth. Once you stop using the product, you will lose the hair that grew back and will most likely revert to the previous pattern of hair loss.

If you haven’t seen any results after using REGAINE® Foam for 16 weeks (or after using REGAINE®Solution for 1 year), you should discontinue using the product.

What if I accidentally drop some on my face?

Don’t worry: just rinse it off with lots of cool water straight away.

How will I know if REGAINE® is working?

You should notice a reduction in hair loss. You might even see new hair growing that is softer and lighter in colour. Over time, this new hair should thicken and blend in with the rest of your hair.

Can I switch from REGAINE® Extra Strength Foam to REGAINE® Extra Strength Solution?

Both contain 5% minoxidil so you can switch between products if you want to.

Will the condition of my hair be affected by REGAINE®?

REGAINE® products can help strengthen and thicken your existing hair. There's no evidence that it will adversely affect your hair, but on rare occasions it has changed the colour or texture.

Should I take more care of my scalp in the sun if I’m using REGAINE?

No, but you should still take normal precautions when out in the sun, such as applying sunscreen and wearing headwear. It is recommended to wait until REGAINE® is completely dry before putting headwear on, to prevent fabric staining.

Which shampoo should I use while using REGAINE®?

A gentle shampoo is recommended, but it’s not essential.

Should I wash my hair before applying REGAINE® and, if so, how long should I wait afterwards before applying it?

There’s no need to wash your hair before using REGAINE® but if you do, your scalp needs to be completely dry before use. This is to ensure REGAINE® isn’t diluted or evaporated before it has been fully absorbed.

Can I use my normal hair care products, e.g. wax, conditioners, etc. whilst using REGAINE®?

You can use your normal hair care products, but make sure REGAINE® is completely dry before applying anything else to your hair. Gentle shampoos and conditioners are recommended; make sure your hair is fully rinsed before using REGAINE®.

Can I use a hair dryer while using REGAINE®?

REGAINE® should be allowed to dry naturally; the heat of a hair dryer will cause the medication to evaporate before being absorbed into the scalp.

Is it possible to go swimming after using REGAINE®?

Yes, but REGAINE® should be completely dry before entering the water. Don’t apply an extra dose of REGAINE® after swimming, wait until your next application.

Can I have my hair dyed or permed if I'm using REGAINE®?

Yes, but tell your hairdresser that you're using REGAINE®. Any scalp massages should be gentle to prevent hair breakage and any comb used should have round, widely spaced teeth.

How old do I have to be to use REGAINE®?

REGAINE® Foam is licensed for hereditary hair loss in men aged 18 to 49, and REGAINE® Extra Strength Solution for men aged 18 to 65 years. REGAINE® Foam is intended for the younger market, up to 49 years old, based on the upper age limit in the trials submitted for license.

How can I help to prevent the foam from turning into a liquid?

Hold the can vertically upside down to prevent the mixture turning into a liquid.

Will REGAINE® work on a receding hair line?

Yes, it will. A receding hair line is typically the early stage of hereditary hair loss.
