Tens pain relief

What is TENS?

TENS stands for Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulations and is recognised as a safe and highly effective method of relieving pain. In fact, TENS electronic pain relievers are now regularly recommended by doctors, physiotherapists and pharmacists throughout the UK.

How does it work?

Pads are placed on or near the area of pain. Small painless electrical pulses are sent via the pads through the skin and along the nerve fibres. The pulses (controlled by the user at all times) help to relieve pain in two ways: by blocking the body’s pain signals to the brain; and by stimulating the body to produce higher levels of its own natural painkillers, endorphins and encephalins.

Who will it work for?

TENS is a used worldwide and recommended by sports coaches, physiotherapy departments, pain clinics, doctors and other medical practitioners. A TENS electronic pain reliever will help ease pain and may result in a reduced need to rely on painkillers. In particular, TENS can help in managing the pain associated with: rheumatoid and osteo-arthritis, phantom limb pain, sports injuries, sciatica, aching joints, muscular pain, whiplash and neck injury, back pain, menstrual pain, and shingles.

Remember - pain is the body's means of warning that something is amiss. Before using any TENS unit, you should establish the source and cause of your pain.

What are the advantages of using TENS?

There are many benefits to using a TENS electronic pain reliever:

  • It's a safe and effective method of relieving pain
  • It's simple to use
  • It can be used alongside drug therapy
  • Lightweight, portable units are available

  • Units also usually offer different intensities to suit your needs
