Chlamydia is one of the most common Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), in 2013 more than 200,000 people tested positive for chlamydia in England*. It is spread through unprotected (without a condom) oral, anal and vaginal sex with a person who has the infection. It is an asymptomatic infection, meaning that usually there are no symptoms and many people can have the infection without knowing it. That’s why it is important that you get regularly tested for STIs whether you are in a relationship or have started seeing someone new.

Is chlamydia curable?
Yes it is and the treatment for this infection is a course of antibiotics. Once you have finished your course of medication you will need to complete another chlamydia test to make sure that the STI has completed cleared up. It’s important to remember that if you have had chlamydia in the past and it was treated with a course of antibiotics, you can still catch chlamydia again in the future.
Chlamydia is typically spread through unprotected (without a condom) vaginal, oral and anal sex. You can also catch chlamydia by coming into contact with infected genital fluids like semen or vaginal fluid.
Chlamydia is part of the groups of STIs that are symptomless; many people do not have symptoms and therefore do not know that they have the infection. If symptoms do appear these can include, pain hen urinating, abnormal discharge and bleeding between periods.
A course of antibiotics will be given to you to fight the infection you will need to take these for a week or 10 days.
