Who are we?
LloydsPharmacy is a leading community pharmacy and healthcare provider with over 1,500 pharmacies across the UK, mainly in community and health centre locations. We employ around 17,000 staff and dispense over 150 million prescription items every year.
What do we do?
LloydsPharmacy is committed to ‘healthcare for life’ and our vision is to be a great healthcare brand.
Our customers are our main focus and we endeavour to provide them with exceptional service and healthcare. Accessibly located within the heart of communities, our local pharmacies are right on the doorstep and strive to be the first choice for customer needs.
We are much more than a dispenser of medicines. Prevention, management and treatment are at the very core of our business, and we aim to deliver high quality outcomes for chronic conditions, such as diabetes and heart health, and to support local communities in making informed health decisions.
Through our pharmacies and website, LloydsPharmacy offers high quality healthcare products and services. We've also launched a range of innovative and affordable products aimed at improving community health, such as blood pressure monitors and allergy relievers, along with a suite of convenient professional health check services, including blood pressure and diabetes testing, and cholesterol and heart checks - all carried out in the comfort of a private consultation room.
A key partner of the NHS, we also work closely with local healthcare providers to develop and deliver commissioned services to address specific health needs within communities.
Key LloydsPharmacy facts:
- In 2010 LloydsPharmacy had a turnover of £1.8 billion
- We dispensed over 150 million prescription items
- We offer more private consultation areas than any other pharmacy –they're currently available in 97% of our pharmacies
- We have 440 GP-practice-based pharmacies, with many others located close to doctors' practices
- Our pharmacy teams have completed over 1.3 million free Type 2 diabetes screening tests and 1.7 million blood pressure tests
During our long history, a number of esteemed names in our sector have been involved in creating the LloydsPharmacy we know today, and provided us with an enviable launch pad for the future. Such names include Savory & Moore, Allens Chemist, Cross & Herbert, R Gordon Drummond, Kingswood GK and, of course, Lloyds Chemist and Hills Pharmacy.
Our parent company, McKesson UK, purchased AAH plc (the UK’s leading pharmaceutical wholesaler) in 1995, going on to acquire Lloyds Chemists PLC, which at the time had 902 pharmacies, in 1997. Together with AAH’s 350-strong Hills Pharmacy network, this took the combined group to over 1,250 pharmacies; a number that has now grown to over 1,500 pharmacies within the UK, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.
The LloydsPharmacy online service is run by qualified pharmacists and operates from registered pharmacy premises under the General Pharmaceutical Council ( GPhC ) registered premises number 1092781: Find more information here

LloydsPharmacy Operating Group Companies
LloydsPharmacy owns a number of companies, including:
- John Bell & Croydon, a retail, online and wholesale business delivering a broad range of high quality healthcare products and solutions to the medical profession, businesses and the general public in the UK and globally. The company is the holder of the Royal Warrant as Pharmacists to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
- LloydsPharmacy acquired 100% shareholding of the Dr Thom online doctor healthcare service in 2011. The LloydsPharmacy Charitable Fund
As the UK's leading community pharmacy, the health and wellbeing of our customers is our top priority.
The Lloydspharmacy Charitable Fund primarily supports charities which have a beneficial impact on people's health and wellbeing. Rather than trying to support many charities during the course of the year, we have made a commitment to one National Charity Partner. We are currently supporting Alzheimer’s Society. At LloydsPharmacy we recognise our commitment to, and the challenges of, improving the environments in which we operate. Our environmental initiatives include:
Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment:
As a retailer of various electrical and electronic items, LloydsPharmacy has a role to play in implementing the WEEE regulations and we have joined a compliance scheme to meet our obligations as an importer and ‘producer’ of WEEE. In addition we have opted to join the Distributor Takeback Scheme to manage waste which the public, including some of our customers, wish to dispose of. We won’t be able to take waste items back in our stores, but we have teamed up with over 200 other retailers to support the development of a recycling network which will be accessible to the majority of households.
As part of the Packaging Regulations, LloydsPharmacy has joined a Compliance Scheme. As part of our Customer Information Obligation we are able to supply our customers with information on a range of recycling issues. You can find advice and guidance variety of recycling initiatives: www.complydirect.com/the-recycling-room/introduction/
If you've bought batteries from LloydsPharmacy online, you can now return them when they're used to your local LloydsPharmacy branch for recycling.
If you have waste electrical and electronic items or batteries which you wish to recycle, you can find the closest recycling site to you at http://www.recycle-more.co.uk/
Single Use Carrier Bag Charge
As of 1st October 2015, England will join Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland in charging for single use carrier bags. This charge is 5p per bag.
This charge has been introduced to promote wider use of reusable bags to conserve our limited resources, encourage sustainability, and cut down on waste and litter. The proceeds raised by LloydsPharmacy will support our charity partner Alzheimer’s Society.
Exemptions to the single-use carrier bag charge:
- All dispensary bags, as long as they are being used for prescriptions
- Closed parcels, e.g. for Click & Collect orders (if the parcel is subsequently put into a carrier bag then this additional bag is chargeable)
