During our long history, a number of esteemed names in our sector have been involved in creating the Lloydspharmacy we know today, and provided us with an enviable launch pad forthe future. Such names include Savory & Moore, Allens Chemist, Cross & Herbert, R Gordon Drummond, Kingswood GK and, of course, Lloyds Chemist and Hills Pharmacy.
Our parent company, Celesio AG, purchased AAH plc (the UK’s leading pharmaceutical wholesaler) in 1995, going on to acquire Lloyds Chemists PLC, which at the time had 902 pharmacies, in 1997. Together with AAH’s 350-strong Hills Pharmacy network, this took the combined group to over 1,250 pharmacies; a number that has now grown to over 1,650 pharmacies within the UK, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.

Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment:
As a retailer of various electrical and electronic items, Lloydspharmacy has a role to play in implementing the WEEE regulations and we have joined a compliance scheme to meet ourobligations as an importer and ‘producer’ of WEEE. In addition we have opted to join the Distributor Takeback Scheme to manage waste which the public, including some of our customers, wish to dispose of. We won’t be able to take wasteitems back in our stores, but we have teamed up with over 200 other retailers to support the development of a recycling network which will be accessible to the majority of households.
As part of the Packaging Regulations, Lloydspharmacy has joined a Compliance Scheme. Single Use Carrier Bag Charge – Lloydspharmacy’s Wales branches
On 1 October 2011 Wales became the first UK country to introduce a charge for single use carrier bags.
The charge has been introduced to promote wider use of reusable bags to conserve our limited resources, encourage sustainability, and cut down on waste and litter. The money raised by retailers in Wales will be passed on to good causes.
The table below shows the number of units sold in all of the Wales branches of Lloydspharmacy during the period 1 October 2011 to 6 April 2012, the money received from the Single Use Carrier Bag sales and the Net Proceeds from the charge that will be donated to charity.
